Accomplishments
Randy has helped move Grand County forward by investing in workforce housing, childcare, transportation, water protection, public safety, and critical infrastructure. His record reflects a focus on responsible budgeting, long-term planning, and practical investments that strengthen communities across the county.
-
Randy George and the Board of County Commissioners helped commit $100,000 annually in county funding to a new three-year Childcare Strategic Investment Fund aimed at strengthening Grand County’s early-childhood workforce. The program provides qualifying nonprofit childcare educators with quarterly stipends of $1,000 for full-time teachers and $600 for part-time teachers, helping local centers attract and retain educators while working to keep childcare costs more manageable for local families.
-
Randy George and his fellow commissioners, serving as the Grand County Housing Authority Board, have helped expand housing options for local workers and families through public-private partnerships and long-term affordable housing investments. During Randy’s tenure, The Mill Apartments began leasing 60 affordable units, while Black Bear Lodge was transitioned into affordable and workforce housing after the Grand Foundation acquired and donated the property to the Housing Authority—adding tangible housing options in a county where workforce housing remains a major challenge.
-
Randy George represents Grand County on the Mountain Rail Coalition Steering Committee, giving the county a direct voice in efforts to restore regular passenger rail service from Denver through Winter Park and Grand County to Steamboat Springs and Craig. His appointment was approved unanimously by the Board of County Commissioners in March 2024, and the coalition has since advocated for state legislation and funding mechanisms designed to unlock state and federal investment, preserve existing rail infrastructure, reduce pressure on mountain highways, and expand transportation options for residents, workers, and visitors.
-
As a Grand County Commissioner, Randy George has helped advance major efforts to protect the county’s water resources, watersheds, and the clarity of Grand Lake. During his term, the Board approved the landmark 2026 Grand Lake Clarity agreement with Northern Water and other regional partners—a 30-year commitment that continues adaptive management of Colorado-Big Thompson operations and secures $30 million in long-term funding for Grand Lake clarity, watershed health, and the Three Lakes system. Randy has also participated in county efforts involving water rights and Colorado River issues, while supporting watershed restoration and stronger protection of the headwaters that are central to Grand County’s environment, recreation, and economy.
-
Randy George and the Board of County Commissioners have backed significant investments in the roads, bridges, and facilities Grand County residents rely on every day. In 2025 alone, the county maintained roughly 769 miles of roadway, added 2.05 miles of new asphalt, and treated 130 lane miles with magnesium chloride, while the 2026 budget dedicates $24 million to streets and highways and includes $3.2 million to begin construction of a new Kremmling Road & Bridge shop. These investments reflect a broader capital strategy focused on maintaining essential infrastructure while replacing aging county facilities.
-
Helped move forward the replacement of Granby’s aging EMS headquarters while managing it as a major county capital project. Construction began in spring 2025; by March 10, 2026, the county reported EMS Station One was ahead of schedule and under budget. The station was nearing completion in August 2026 and is designed to serve not only as an EMS headquarters but also as an emergency resilience hub with staff quarters, training space and community functions.
-
Randy George and the Board of County Commissioners helped move forward the new EMS Station One in Granby using a mix of voter-approved EMS funding, county savings, grants, and long-term financing rather than relying on a single funding source. In 2025, Grand County secured $25 million in Certificates of Participation and $2.4 million in grant funding for the project, while S&P Global Ratings assigned the county an AA- long-term rating on the anticipated financing—reflecting the county’s financial position as it undertook one of its largest public-safety infrastructure investments.
-
Randy George and the Board of County Commissioners helped preserve support for Cliffview Assisted Living while taking a careful, transparent approach to its long-term funding. In 2025, Grand County budgeted $813,167 to cover Cliffview’s projected shortfall, then sought direct community input before pursuing any longer-term tax solution—an approach that showed both a commitment to local seniors and accountability to taxpayers.
-
In March 2026, Randy George committed $10,000 in District 3 funds to help Kremmling secure matching funds for improvements to Doc Ceriani Park and the Red Mountain Sports Complex. Along with additional support from fellow commissioners, the investment helped direct county resources toward recreational facilities and community infrastructure that serve local families and residents.
